1997 Christmas Poem

Like children
Searching for a gift
Their hearts desired
And not finding it
Where they wanted it to be
But in its place
Something unimagined
And perplexing
Almost overlooking it
And passing it by
We found a child
And not the toy
We thought we wanted
And though in our own immaturity
We could not care for Him
He grew to care for us
And to become the Joy
We wanted all along
